08/12/18 Today, work began on improvements and modifications to the Tees Cottage Model Railway, ran and maintained by the Cleveland Association of Model Engineers. With our new secretary Lee Bailey, officially named last night. Work has begun, to bring the running standards upto scratch for next year's season.
The first order of the day, is track maintenance, there is a lot of ballast to renew, as well as rotten sleepers. The 3.1/2" track it has been decided will be cut out, leaving just the 5" and 7.1/4" gauge lines. The 3.1/2" track is segmented, and does not consist of a full run only a few meters.
The line is 1/4mile total length, with double end to end run of track, running from the entrance of the pumping station. It has two turntables which will require work in the future both for safety and to ease the work on the guys turning it. The largest has been down for 30years and is in need of work to bring it up to scratch, new decking boards been a minimum, as the ones in place are past their best after 30years use.
A small beginning, relaying fresh ballast ready to replace sleepers as required. Then we will focus on levelling the track and sorting the super elevation out on the corners.
I will keep this thread updated with progress and pictures as work is carried out.
